Panda Bear, Panda Bear, What do you see, written by Bill Martin Jr, & Eric Carle, is an amazing story especially for children who love animals! The book describes different animals in the wild. The illustrations are so abstract and colorful! I can use this book in my classroom when learning about different animals. I can have the students determine which of the animals listed in the book live on land and which live on water. I can also have the students research one of the animals in the book and discuss it with the class.

No David!, written by David Shannon, is about the typical five year old who breaks his mom’s rules. David’s mom is constantly telling him “No!” Or “Stop!”. David goes from chewing with his mouth open at the dinner table to jumping on his bed during bedtime. This book can be used to teach character traits and teaching the students to make text to self connections. I can have the students infer character traits about David based on what they read!

David Gets in Trouble, written by David Shannon, is another silly book about David. David is getting in trouble yet again and he comes up with different excuses for his bad behavior. I can use this book in my classroom to teach about the different types of sentences (command, question, exclamatory and simple) and punctuation (period, question mark and exclamation mark). We as a class can go through each sentence and determine what type of sentence it is and identify the punctuation.

Amazing Grace written by Mary Huffman and Caroline Binch, is such a beautiful story. It’s about a little girl name Grace who has a big imagination. She wants to play the part of Peter Pan in her school play but her peers tell her that she can’t play that role because it’s a “boy” role and because she’s black. But that doesn’t stop Grace from auditioning! This book is great for teaching children not to give up on their dreams and character traits! I can have the students infer character traits about Grace! My students can also write out what they want to be when they grow up, whether it's a ballerina or a ninja!

There Was An Old Lady That Swallowed A Fly, written by Simms Taback, is such a colorful and fun book. It’s about an old lady who continues to swallow different things to go and chase the thing that was previously swallowed. I can use this book in my classroom to teach sequencing, rhyming and concepts about print! We as a class can discuss what happens in the story in sequential order and Identify which animal/insect came first.

Charlotte’s Web, written by Garth Williams, is a fantastic read. It’s about a girl named Fern who adopts a little pig named Wilbur who becomes best friends with a spider named, Charlotte.  Wilbur was a happy and carefree pig until he finds out that the owner of the farm is fattening him up for Christmas dinner. To stop that from happening, Charlotte uses her web to spell out different adjectives that describes Wilbur. Wilbur eventually becomes a hit at the county fair but will that be enough to keep him safe from the owner? I can have the students describe someone that they love using 3 adjectives!

Goodnight Moon, written by Margaret Wise Brown, is such a fun book. It’s a story about a little bunny saying good night to everything around him. He’s very descriptive! This book can be used in the classroom when teaching figurative language, adjectives or just simply describing things in detail! I can have the students bring in something for show and tell and have them describe it to the class!

Chrysanthemum has a very unique name. Her peers makes fun of her for having a unique name. At one point she she wanted to change her name but  the support of her parents and her teacher made her more confident with her name. This book could be used to teach students to accept things about themselves that they can not change and that everyone is different and unique! I can have the students talk about one special characteristic about themselves and discuss it with the class.

Pete the Cat: I love my White Shoes, written by Eric Lorain, is such a fun book when learning colors. Pete the Cat Wales around town in his white shoes and steps into certain things that causes his shoes to change colors. I can  use this book in my classroom when teaching colors and connecting colors to what the students see on a daily basis. I can give my students a specific color item in the classroom and have them go and point it out so that I can get them accustomed to acknowledging colors!

Wilma Jean the Worry Machine, written by Julia Cook and Anita DuFalla, is an awesome book to read to students. Wilma Jean worries about everything concerning school, whether it’s getting called to work a math problem on the board to not having anyone to play with during recess. The teacher does an activity which allows the children to write worries they can and cannot control. By doing this activity, this helps Wilma Jean control her worries. It gives parents and teachers insight on what students worry about on a daily basis. Reading this book to the class will help them accept things that they can’t change! I can do an activity similar to what the teacher in the story did, have the students write out the worries that the can and cannot control.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, written by Bill Martin Jr and is a fun book to read! This book is all about the alphabets and rhyming! This is a great book to read for teachers AND parents! I can use this book in my classroom for teaching the alphabets and rhyming words! I can play the song that goes along with this book so that the students can learn how to recite the alphabets without even knowing it!

David Goes to School, written by David Shannon,is a great book! David does what he wants in school. The teacher is constantly getting on to him. Eventually she gets fed up with his behavior and makes him stay after school and clean all of the desks. Will that change David’s behavior in school? I can use this book in my classroom to discuss school rules and teach the students about making predictions!  I can have the students come up with rules for our classroom!

The Giving Tree , written by Shel Silverstein, is about a tree who loves a little boy unconditionally. They grew up together. They played together. They did everything together. The tree was willing to give him all that she had even though life came between them. As the boy grew older, he wanted to do other things besides play or hangout with the tree. Even though it saddened the tree, she loved him so much that she gave him whatever he asked for. This book  was a phenomenal read, even for an adult like myself. It has such a deep meaning for what it means to love  something or someone unconditionally. I can use this book in my classroom to teach my students about personification, friendship, sharing, and problem/solution.

Green Eggs and Ham, written by Dr. Seuss, is a book about character not liking green eggs and ham because it does not look appealing. The character, Sam, is going to try everything in his power to convince his friend to try green eggs and ham. Sam's friend eventually tastes green eggs and ham and ends up loving it! I can use this book in my class when getting the students to try new things and to not judge something by the way it looks! I can bring in different pastries and dye them green and allow my students to taste them. Once they realize that even though it may look weird, it taste delicious!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, written by Eric Carle, is about a caterpillar who has a huge appetite. As each day past, he eats more than the precious day. On the last day of the week, once he is done eating, he builds its cocoon and turns into a beautiful butterfly. I can use this book in my classroom when teaching the days of the week and numbers! I can go back and do a picture walk and count how many food items that the caterpillar ate on each page, connect the number to the illustration.

Back of the Bus, written by Aaron Reynolds, is a fantastic read! The story is about a young boy and his mother riding home on the same bus that Rosa Parks was on. He was playing with his marble when it fell on the ground and rolled directly to were Rosa Parks was sitting, in the front of the bus. He knew that she was not allowed to sit in the front but he had no idea what was about the life changing event that was about to take place. I can use this book in my classroom when teaching about Rosa Parks and how she contributed to the Civil Rights Movement because it gives the students a child's perspective on what happened to Rosa Parks.
